While we're all staying at home during isolation, it's a great time to pick up a new hobby or interest to past the time and to keep you entertained! Watching a movie on Netflix or binging the latest season of your favourite TV show is great to keep you amused for a while... but there is only so much TV one person can watch! We've put together this list of some activities that we at Adrift have been doing during isolation, and will keep you entertained all winter long! These ideas are sure to keep you from mindlessly scrolling on social media, you could even do one with a friend over FaceTime!
1. Go green!
Try your hand at gardening and plant care to give your home a beautiful pop of colour and to freshen up your spaces. Don't worry if you live in an apartment or a home without a garden, you can easily take up this hobby with potted plants or a mini herb garden on a window sill. Start with low-maintenance plants like succulents, peace lilies, aloe or a snake plant.
2. Kickstart you health and wellness goals
Spending all this time at home can lead to low moods, feeling lethargic and just generally lacking motivation. We get it - no one actually wants to wake up at 5am to go running... right? There's no need to do anything crazy to start your health and wellness journey, just take small steps and gradually implement healthy routines. Something we love doing is an online yoga class, there are plenty of free videos on YouTube to choose from. Another great idea to help you feel healthier is to go for a brisk walk each morning, not only will you kickstart your day, it's also great for boosting energy and gives you time to yourself to plan out your day or even meditate!
3. Teach yourself something new
We all have those activities that we want to do but just never have time for, well now is the perfect time to start! Whether it's something as simple as learning to bake a sweet treat, or you're wanting to learn the guitar, now is a great time to get practising. There are plenty of tutorials for all kinds of things on YouTube, or even get a loved one to share one of their skills with you. Not only will this help you past the time, it'll also give you a great sense of accomplishment as you get better! Some of our favourites including learning a new language, learning to paint and attempting meditation!
4. Get cooking!
Spending more time at home means eating more meals at home, and you definitely don't want to get in a rut thinking 'what should I make for dinner?' every night. A great idea to keep you entertained during isolation is to experiment with you cooking! Whether you want to take online cooking classes, or just want to have fun in the kitchen, now is a great time to put your skills to the test. Something we've loved doing is creating an 'at-home dinner date' with a loved one or even by yourself! Simply cook up some fun new dishes, put your favourite Adrift dress on, turn up the music and have your very own 'night-out' from the comfort of your own home!
5. Create an at-home spa and TREAT YOURSELF!
After a long day of work, taking care of the kids, or even just to treat yourself, creating an at-home spa is an awesome way to pamper yourself and make you feel relaxed. We've written a full blog post on how to create the ultimate at-home spa, which you can check out
here. If you're short on time, simply putting on a face mask, lighting a candle and relaxing with some music is a great way to feel chilled out. We love taking a hot bath, reading a book and maybe even having a cheeky glass of wine to unwind.
